The babes of the Miami Vice trailer
23 February 06
Normally I don’t buy into all the hype preceding the release of major Hollywood flicks: I learned my lesson after obsessing over the trailers for the penultimate and final installments in the Matrix trilogy.
But I’m willing to make an exception for Miami Vice.
Okay so maybe when I was a young gansta in the late eighties, just maybe I had one of those pastel linen suits. Maybe there’s even a picture of me proudly posing in that suit next to a Masai tribesman while on safari in Africa. Not sayin’ it definitely did happen, but it might’ve happened. Maybe Miami Vice was my Star Wars—a probably overrated cultural touchstone that’s taken on almost religious significance for me. So what?
When I first saw the trailer on the big screen, I knew in the opening seconds that it bore the imprimatur of Michael Mann—he has a trademark cinematic style that’s so gorgeous it hurts—and when I deduced that I was in fact watching the trailer for Miami Vice I nearly pissed myself. Mann was of course behind the original television series, the brilliant ganster movie Heat and the sorely underrated Collateral. So yeah, I have high hopes for the remake. To paraphrase someone from a Miami Vice fan forum, if the movie amounts to nothing more than two hours of Jamie Foxx and Colin Farrell driving that Ferrari F430 all over downtown Miami I’ll still be satisfied.
But there’s more. Babes, for example. Lots of babes.
Now there’s a tempting silouette. She’s such a good dancer, too.
What movie trailer would be complete without an upskirt panty shot?
I have to admit the silver girl’s outfit is pretty fucked up though. Maybe she performs with Cirque du Soleil by day.
Here we have the fine Naomi Harris, who plays Ricardo Tubbs’ love interest. Is this a light bondage scene or what?
You know what they say: behind every good man…
Mann apparently developed an interest in Gong Li after seeing her performance in the forgettable Memoirs of a Geisha. She plays Isabella, Crockett’s femme-fatale love interest.
Another shot of Gong Li. Note the clouds in the background.
There you have it. Even if you aren’t quite the Miami Vice fanatic I am there’s certainly plenty of eye candy to go around.

Mann was also behind the rather horrible, almost straight to dvd, Ali.
And Last of the Mohicans, which I also thought sucked.

Well, I’m not into biography films anyway.
But I thought Last of the Mohicans was aiight.
