When you think about it there ain’t much difference between high-end prostitution and blogging, is there?
- A Brazilian woman ran a high-end escort service out of her luxury Manhattan condo, importing hotties from her home country and charging $1500 for threesomes. Unfortunately for those of us with a little cash lying around, she got nabbed. [NYDN]
- Another sexy Chinese blogger bares all. Except this one, Qin Dai, claims to be the Chinese Kafka. [China Daily]
- Japanese women love free porn. This is surely a sign of the coming apocalypse. [Asian Sex Gazette]

I totally want to buy the figurine.
- Lipstick lesbians being the obsession of adolescents everywhere, the internets have been buzzing about Batwoman coming down with a case of the gay, but apparently she’s only one part of a larger project within the comic industry to introduce more minority superheroes. My personal fave is Socialist Red Guardsman, pictured above. [New York Times]
- When I first read about the China Daily’s Most Beautiful Blogger contest I was thinking “this story is useless without pictures.” Luckily the pervs over at Asian Sirens came through with some tantalizing images of “Hedgehog Mu Mu.” [Asian Sirens]
- Britain may be the world’s fastest growing market for internet porn, but they’re only catching up to the rest of us. [The Register]

I’ve been entranced of late by photographer Rikki Kasso’s Tokyo Undressed, a sexy blog featuring stunning photos of both the erotically charged and the mundane. And yeah, I ain’t too proud to admit I’m a little envious of his talent and his stable of eager female accomplices. Where oh where does he find the time?

It may be old news, but this didn’t stop the New York Times from running a piece on Raquel Pacheco, aka Bruna Surfistinha, a Brazilian prostitute turned blogger turned best-selling author. Her book, The Sweet Venom of the Scorpion: The Diary of a Call Girl, has caused quite a stir in a country that’s more sexually conservative than most people realize.
“I think there’s a lot of hypocrisy and a bit of fear involved,” [said Ms. Pacheco]. “Brazilian women have this sexy image, of being at ease and uninhibited in bed. But anyone who lives here knows that’s not true.”
The Times trots out the usual experts to confirm the finding that most Brazilian women aren’t your stereotypical hot-blooded-Latinas. This really shouldn’t come as a surprise to anyone living in the United States, which has its own reputation for sexual permissiveness. Many people outside this country are under the impression that it’s Girls Gone Wild here all the time, but anyone who lives here knows our deviance is matched only by our countervailing prudishness. Two other kinky countries, Germany and Japan, suffer a similar schizophrenia when it comes to human sexuality.
As a result, some Brazilians have applauded Bruna’s frankness and say it is healthy to get certain taboos out in the open, like what both she and academic researchers say is a national penchant for anal sex.
I couldn’t help but chuckle at the “national penchant for anal sex.” One wonders how academic researchers reached this conclusion.

Let’s face it: the saga of the single white female looking for love (or lust) in the big city has been done. To fucking death. While there are still occasional standouts in the genre, when I read yet another why-can’t-I-find-a-decent-man blog, watch yet another Sex and the City-esque program, or wipe my ass with pages torn from yet another cynically-marketed chick-lit novel, I feel like I’m stuck in a recursive loop. Everything there is to say about white bourgeois pairings has been said a million times already.
This is why Flint had me at “hello.” Not only does he offer an all-too-rare male perspective on sex and dating in the big city, but his blog reflects the true diversity of New York relationships—a far cry from the whitewashed fantasyland we usually read about. Flint sounds neither boastful nor apologetic; he reveals his inner life rather than simply rattling off a litany of conquests.
There’s a poem I read in some lurid Marilyn Monroe bio when I was about 13 that I’ve never been able to put out of my head. It’s something about, “This is the wisdom, to make prayers and wish nothing of the the gods, to kiss the lips and stroke the hair, to have, to hold and in time, let go.” I’ve never been able to find the book again to get it right, but that pretty much sums up my approach to relationships.
He must be doing something right—you didn’t hear it from me, but the blogger chicks at the NYC Perverts’ Saloon were making goo-goo eyes at him all night.

The primary reason ethnorotica exists is to facilitate an ongoing conversation. As much as I might enjoy standing on my soap box or else ferreting out hot wank material, what really gets my juices flowing are people’s opinions and perspectives. For better or worse, we internet people live in an attention economy governed by power-law dynamics, so perpectives that fall outside the mainstream (even within this little sexbloggy world) often get overlooked.
Technorati is falling woefully behind the curve so I’m hand-curating a list of people who’ve posted about ethnorotica in recent days:
- “All those schupid arguments with sexually conservative bloggers calling themselves feminists, academics, lefties, THINKERS and I got a sex blogger who didn’t even need to come to me with any schupid conversation about how they’re trying to understand what the site is about and how they’re just worried that folks are going to open the site at work and get slapped on the wrist.” [Dark Daughta]
- “I do feel qualified to say that in both gender and ethnicity the mechanisms that let us stereotype each other and ourselves blind us over and over to our far broader and deeper similarities.” [Figleaf]
- “So to be fair, I’m sorry ethnorotica, this site isn’t that erotic…. unless you consider me talking about how I’ve been SO BUSY these days to clean my room that now I have absolutely NO CLUE where my “toy” is, to be erotic material! The site is ethnic though. But to make up for it, I will present you, what I think is my most erotic pic on public – my Halloween pic…” [Indian Girl Dating – Thanks!]
- “This very pretty site endeavors to present women of color in ways that transgress the fetishistic and thought-free formats of conventional mainstream porn. Come for the gorgeous women, stay for the clever and sly writing. It’s good-humored, intelligent and hott.” [Chelsea Girl]
- “Recently inspired by ‘Ethnorotica’ a wonderful blog by ‘Laughing Man’ (odd name eh?) I decided to seek out more galleries and sites that feature women of color in a postive manner. In particular I am going to work to find postive example of interracial lesbians. Unfortunely most ‘adult’ porn perpetuates negative stereo types of people of color.” [Lori]
- “Usually the only things we like to have challenged when we visit a porn site are our wrist muscles—but if you stick around long enough after visiting the introductory babe galleries at the newish Ethnorotica, you’ll be treated to some well-written and thoughtful musings on race, sex, porn, and popular culture.” [Fleshbot]
Oh, and FYI, you’ll all find out soon enough what the deal is with the name ‘Laughing Man.’

Figleaf of Real Adult Sex sends along a list of some of his favorite ethnorotic bloggers:
The picture above is of the lovely and sharp-witted Hiromi, whom I remember from her time at the now-defunct Panties Panties Panties. She just posted an interesting essay about racism. Looks like I have some reading to catch up on over the weekend.

A few days ago I commented on the apparent dearth of non-white sex bloggers. Well, in the spirit of Doing Something About It I’d like to point you in the direction of Dark Daughta:
this is a critical, anti-oppression, anti-authoritarian, sex positive, pro-choice, Black conscious, queer, feminist pregnancy and birth blog from hell. a multi- faceted message in a bottle set adrift by a pregnant lefty prepped to birth a new future in plain sight. tha creatrix of darkdaughta.com rides again…
Actually, calling Dark Daughta a sex blogger is a little unfair—it’s like calling the internet a ginormous porn network—yeah, she does write about sex-related topics but her diverse interests pull her in a lot of different directions. At any rate, I’m adding her to the growing stable of ethnorotic sites I’m keeping my eye on.

A few days ago the lovely and talented Audacia sent me a couple of ethnorotica-related links. And that got me thinking (dangerous, I know)—where the fuck are all the non-white sex bloggers, at least when it comes to blogs in the English language? I thought, for certain, that a review of Naked Loft Party’s blogroll would turn up at least a few. But no. It’s a sea of lily-white, with maybe a couple exceptions. A cursory review of the blogrolls at the top sex blogs out there revealed more of the same.
The obvious question is why? I know plenty of non-white writers, plenty of non-white kinksters, plenty of non-white people who keep diaries, so why aren’t they, y’know, representing? Are white people, due to whatever sense of privilege they share, more likely to expose themselves in this way? I’m not posing this question merely to be inflammatory; I genuinely want to know.
The general blogosphere’s diversity problem is much discussed of course (it both amuses and terrifies me that Gawker has a special correspondent for brown-people issues), but I dare say the sexblogosphere’s diversity problem is even more pronounced. Okay, so we had the short-lived blogging career of the loathsome and mannish Jessica Cutler, but you know what they say about exceptions that prove the rule. The funny thing is the sex-positive types I know are generally a progressive bunch, so I ask again, what’s the fucking deal here?
