There’s an extraordinary, almost encyclopedic post over on MetaFilter that discusses the history of Japanese dollmaking and highlights the sometimes creepy, sometimes darkly erotic work of contemporary artists such as Kai Akemi. If, like me, you’ve ever been curious about the origins of the modern Japanese obsession with robots, cyborgs and love dolls, the numerous linked galleries are a great starting point for further intellectual masturbation.
